First assignment will be the LIFE MAP, FRIDAY SEPT. 14th. You will find the instructions attached. Have fun and BE CREATIVE. Remember this is your first impression! :) Descriptive Writing DUE OCT. 10th You will be writing your own descriptive paragraph in class. If you need extra time then you can take it home to finish. Attached are the current handouts. RESPONSE UNIT
Now until the end of term 1 we will be working on Responses. The students will have 2 mini responses and 1 full response. The students will not have homework! This unit is done strictly in class to prep for exams in February. |

Nov - Dec. THE OUTSIDERS UNIT In this unit we will be doing many different types of activities. They will be responsible for keeping a character chart in their notebooks (focusing on the main characters). They will create a poster collage (and give a presentation about what they learned), quick writes, character essay, Venn diagram, and numerous discussions. Poster Collage Due November 10th VENN DIAGRAM DUE DECEMBER 19th Character Chart due December 19th Character Essay due December 20th Photo Essay (Jan)
We will be working on a photo essay in class, but they can work on it at home as well. The Photo Essay is due Thursday Januaray 18th. It must be emailed to [email protected]. Files needed for this assignment are to the right. Poetry Unit
In class we will be working on different types of poems that will be put into a book. Students are responsible for a title page, table of contents, all their poems and creating a book. All poems are done on a blank page (no lines), with a fine tip sharpie and a design. NO PENCIL!!! Book due in April 1st - NO JOKE :) Book Club
In class, we are reading the novel Egghead. During the unit, students are required to keep notes in their notebooks (which is marked at the end of the unit), discuss for marks, create a mind map, and write a 'check for understanding' quiz (open notebook - hence the importance of keeping good notes). The Mind Map will be due May 6. The quiz will take place as soon as we finish the novel. |

Personal Narrative
We will be working on creative writing to prepare students for the final exam in May. They will write their own rough draft in their notebooks that will be graded. This will help prepare students for their May 18th in class exam. The exam is May 18th - May 31st, in class. |

January Exams
ELA exams are done in class starting on Tuesday January 24th until Friday January 27th. Students CANNOT miss class. If they need to miss a day please let the teacher know ahead of time. Good luck! |
